Logan M Isaac: Hi, this is a message for Mike Penner. I got your uh contact information, the phone number from the Portland Police Bureau reception desk. I'm following up on an email that I sent about an incident in 2017 um in which a uh 20-year Marine Corps veteran was was charged with a bias crime under 166.155.
However, Sergeant Pete Simpson uh a few days after this incident used language suggesting that it was "a bias/hate crime." I'm trying to attribute that citation to determine whether or not there are in fact hate crimes under Oregon state law. If there are not, I'm trying to figure out where that language came from. Uh The Oregonian reported on it and attributed it to Pete Simpson. they that got picked up by The New York Times and a bunch of others. And so I just want to make sure I get the facts right. If it's a hate crime, I'm trying to figure out what law that was. And if it wasn't, then if the Portland Police Bureau is going to issue an apology or retraction or some kind of restitution for labeling something a crime that does not appear to exist in Oregon state law, if you could give me a call back.
