Dear Sojourners Opinion Editors,

I'm submitting the attached opinion piece, "Who Is the Psalmist?" (approximately 870 words), as a direct response to Adam Joyce's recent essay "[Praying the Imprecatory Psalms in the Age of Empire](https://sojo.net/articles/opinion/praying-imprecatory-psalms-age-empire?ref=gijustice.com)."

I write as a combat veteran, professed monk, and author of three books on faith and military service. Sojourners has published my work previously and [maintains my biography and byline](https://sojo.net/biography/logan-isaac?ref=gijustice.com) on the site. Adam Joyce is a seminary colleague; I shared this piece with him privately before submitting.

The piece argues that the imprecatory psalms belong especially to those whose bodies are already inside the cost of empire — a perspective the current conversation is missing, and one I believe fits squarely within Sojourners' stated mission to “[comfort the afflicted](https://sojo.net/editorial-policies-and-procedures?ref=gijustice.com).”

Regarding compensation: I understand Sojourners does not always offer payment for online opinion pieces. In that case, I understand the exchange to include meaningful audience access, which I regard as compensation of real economic value, and I ask that this submission be considered on that basis.

I look forward to your response.
