I should be almost done with what I can accomplish in the timeframe we have. I'd like to get you and Robert my copy of the manuscript with my comments in the next couple of hours (I hope).
I did want some clarification on what constitutes "interviews" from your perspective. Especially if there is some record that is being kept, I'd like to know what it is you are drawing from. I seem to recall that in DC you recorded audio as well, and if that's the case, I'd like to hear it; it might jog my memory at least, but (as I make reference to in my comments, coming soon), DC was not what I understand to be collaborative or formal in any way - I had finished a major multi-day conference, had a long drive ahead of me, and was being given numerous new details on a very traumatic event from my life (re. Daniel McConnell). Anything you needed from me as far as "record" needed to be explicit and in writing, which I do not recall ever hearing or otherwise getting from you. That is not to say that conversation is necessarily off-limits, but I am sure you would agree that I was not in my best state of mind.

Just let me know what is in dispute and we can discuss. I can't recall ever having a conversation with you that wasn't part of the book's research. From the first dinner we shared at the Nefertiti when I explained to everyone that I was a journalist, a fly on the wall, and that all we were doing/saying/etc., was part of the book. But I'm trying to make you comfortable, so let's work through your concerns.

i understand the stuff in rutba, but the interviews you're talking about (DC, phone calls, wherever else) never struck me as research. you never came to me for those meetings, we made time to meet up when i happened to be in your neck of the woods. that doesnt necessarily imply that what i was saying was on the record. however, i am not saying concretely that those are off the record, i'd just have to hear what it was that was said for me to give my blessing to the conversation. there are a number of overall assumptions being made about me in the text that are not based on our conversations that i want to make sure are addressed. i make notes in the files, and i will try to get those to you soon.
i can probably talk in the next several hours, just trying to work through this stuff one last time before we talk
