20180530 📧 “blog entry for RLC”

Let me know when you can talk, perhaps by phone. If hosting a GI Justice workshop in Dallas will not be possible, you and I need to decide how to make good on that promise you made to me, as it affects my reputation and goodwill before my audience. I told people about Dallas because you invited me there, and they deserve to know how they can support soldiers and veterans.

More importantly, RLC needs to know how to support soldiers and veterans and how to fight against the desire to not know who we are and why God loves us as we are. Our voices and our value have been erased from Jonathan and William Barbers' campaign, and we (via Desmond Doss) have been erased from Lynchburg. I have not seen any response from RLC about Shane's language in that email from a few months ago, and I know of no other efforts made other than the work I put into creating the 2 minute video and the blog I wrote without pay for the RLC blog.

You know the power of public discourse, and Falwell's threat of arrest was not hidden from public scrutiny. Nor will I be willing to conceal from my small audience what has and has not occurred if I continue to be held at arms length like I have been. I know you all are very busy and the revival created a budget deficit, but I have not asked for anything that costs money. I need your support, and other soldiers and veterans need your support, to confront the American desire to not know about the complex reality of military communities, to challenge the erasure of human lives and contributions in progressive movements, an to combat the epidemic of suicide that is fueled by internalized oppression of anti-military bias.

I look forward to setting up a time to talk at your earliest convenience.

Brother,

I am sorry. I’m currently in rural Peru.

We are hard at work to make Dallas a reality but we are struggling financially, unable even to make payroll this month! We were not able to make the July dates work. Please pray for us. We remain hopeful that Dallas will happen. Be assured of our continued commitment to your participation.

Our channels and platforms are available to you and our hearts are open to your message and leadership.

I return to the US June 10 and will be available to talk. Let me know, with your knowledge of current constraints, if there are ways to amplify your message or support you.

Your brother in Christ,

Don

Thanks Don,

Here are some things that would help amplify my message, including some ways to redirect the energy we'd reserved for July 6 & 7th;

  • email to all RLC subscribers about #GIJustice, directing them to the website, inviting them to book a workshop with a special RLC discount code for $200 off minimum fee (so $380 plus travel)

  • email to RLC subscribers within a certain radius of Chapel Hill, NC inviting them to a July 2nd workshop at University UMC

    • two week social media (twitter, FB, insta) campaign highlighting the July 2nd workshop, maybe sending RLC collateral to highlight (banner, shirts, etc.?)

  • An RLC blog category on GI Justice or 'military' or 'veterans' of some kind, for which I can solicit authors to contribute

  • a Red Carpet Interview, to post in a run up to July 4th

  • a banner for GI Justice on the right hand sidebar (i figure this might not be tenable, if sponsors are a way RLC makes cashflow)

I also need a "Book Now" icon for my RLC network profile, which should link here

If you approve of the above, I can get to work immediately on copy, etc. so that RLC can do a proper run up for July 4th. I think this can be really good! Happy to be a part of RLC as much as I can. Let me know who the person is to coordinate the above and I can be in touch with them directly to free you up to focus on your responsibilities in south america til you return.

What makes sense for our team capacity and resources in the immediate is to do a single roundup promoting your #GIJustice tours — as well as the current actions of a few other partners. This roundup of partner events/products would include directing our constituents to your website and inviting them to book a workshop with any discount on offer.

Limited social media promotion highlighting the July 2nd workshop.

RLC could consider a blog category on GI Justice or 'military' or 'veterans' of some kind. This needs time to develop and requires more contributors. We welcome your assistance with this, but we have the last call on what gets published.

We can run a banner ad for GI Justice on the sidebar for the July event, if you can provide the graphic design.

I look forward to your response.

@ 1418

Can you show me what a Roundup is?

Also, given the omission of my blog from the last Catch Up, I'm interested in hearing how/why that happened, as well as why/if a Red Carpet interview is outside the realm of possibilities. On that, the post is not on the homepage right now, as far as I can tell. I've attached a screenshot for reference.

Hey Don, we're about a week away from the event in chapel hill, and I'm hoping to hear about the limited social media promotion y'all can help me with. Let me know when/how we can have that conversation ASAP. The church will also be participating, but they only have FB in terms of online.
