📧 “Reversion of rights”
20240523
Dear Logan,
I received a forward of your email of earlier today, as did our in house counsel. I am the publisher overseeing Hachette Nashville.
I refer you to your author contract, which states that you are entitled to 25 gratis copies of your book, a quantity which we all agree was sent to you upon publication. It seems that we also agree that you have been sent an additional 40 gratis copies of the book beyond what you were entitled to per your contract.
Your contract also provides for an author discount of 50% off of the retail price for any copies beyond the contractually defined gratis amount that you may wish to purchase.
It would seem that the most productive way forward at this time would be to offer you a release from our publishing partnership through a reversion of all rights in the book to you so that you may proceed with future activities at liberty. We will begin the reversion process immediately, and you can expect to receive a formal notification from us shortly. We currently have 525 copies of the book in our warehouse, which you are welcome to purchase at your author discount.
Sincerely,
Daisy Blackwell Hutton
