šŸ“§ ā€œHolcomb Centerā€ from Skousen

Thank you again for reaching out about the Holcomb Center at Oregon State University. The Holcomb Center is dedicated to supporting military service members, veterans, and their families by providing resources such as counseling, career guidance, educational support, and community building. As you likely know, the Center is much more than just service delivery; it’s truly about creating a supportive community on campus.

The Holcomb Center is not part of the Cultural Centers (CCs) grouping because the CCs focus on fostering a community that addresses cultural engagement across various identities, including race, ethnicity, gender, and more. The specialized services for students that the Holcomb Center provides, including assistance with specific regulations related to veterans’ benefits and collaboration with outside partners like ODVA and the VA, are different from the programming services that the CCs are set up to provide. This configuration allows us to better serve veterans and other military-connected students. Additionally, having the Holcomb Center separate from the CCs allows us to advocate for these students and their unique challenges and opportunities in different ways and through different channels. This separation can sometimes elevate these issues in unique ways. Further, the Holcomb Center works in collaboration with the CCs to build community and support students who identify with the various identities supported by the CCs.

If you have questions regarding the populations supported by the CCs, please connect with Reagan Le. For questions about the populations supported by the Holcomb Center, please connect with Willie Elfering. I’ve copied them both on this message for your convenience.
