📧 “Holcomb Center” with OSU

Lauren [Skousen]

I went by your office in SEC 206 today to make an appointment to discuss this with you in person, but staff were unable to help me because you were not in your office this morning. You also have not responded to my email from almost a week ago asking to use Holcomb for an educational event for a minority community disproportionately at risk of bias, harassment, and discrimination. I am forced to wonder if you treat all minorities this way, or just military families.

As the Dean of Student Affairs was similarly unavailable this morning, I will attempt to meet with OSU's president to determine whether the anti-military animus extends all the way to the top of a public institution.

Hi Logan,

As we have discussed in person, the Holcomb Center is here to support our OSU Military-Connected community, and if the students are interested in hosting the event herein the center I am happy to help get that scheduled and supported appropriately.

I have connected you in person with members of the Student Veterans Association previously.

I have not heard back from them as to their interest in including this event during Veterans’ Week. I will reach out to them to see if there are any updates, and reply to you as soon as I have heard back from them.

Thank you for your continued work on behalf of all Veterans.

Yes, I have spoken with [redacted], but he has not responded or reached out in response to my request. I don't have his contact info, or even his last name. He indicated that using Holcomb on November 4 was approved by SVA, but I let him know that I need it confirmed in writing. If someone with an @oregonstate.edu can confirm Nick's offer in writing, I need to know what the requirements are ASAP, like COB today.

Good afternoon, Logan.

I see that Willie has responded to you regarding the process for utilizing space in the Holcomb Center in conjunction with the Student Veterans Association.

I also want to acknowledge that you seem to have a concern that I have treated you differently due to your Veteran status. I hope you can understand that the delay in my response was due to competing work demands not due to status. However, if you feel that you have been treated unfairly, I encourage you to submit a Bias Incident Report so the university can evaluate your claim appropriately.

@ 1523 to Skousen

Yes, Wilie referred me to the SVA representative; OSU is dumping responsibility on a tuition-paying student for failing to complete an administrative task. I'm tracking, thanks.

As for reporting bias, I have no faith or confidence in its efficacy; OSU's own data show that there's a silencing effect on veterans. It fits a pattern of a hostile environment. If you do not believe it exists, the burden is on you to explain why the data is a liability rather than a point of pride.
