📧 “post on the Bible and soldiers”
Dear Mr. Isaac,
…I am a senior editor at The Century. Steve Thorngate forwarded your blog post to me because we've been doing a little reorganization and I am now handling submissions for the magazine.
I've circulated your piece and we've decided not to do it. Here's my take: there is a lot that is of interest here, and I wonder about your willingness to explore these ideas at more depth than is possible in a blog post. I think you have a unique voice in the conversation and I would be willing to work with you on article ideas, if you are interested.
Thanks for considering

Sure, I'd be happy to. I have realized the same thing, that I’m kind of lobbing grains of sand at Goliath. As a bit of a pariah, I just plug away as I am able, but I’d be delighted to chat about possibilities for greater depth.
As an aside, we’ve interacted before, maybe before I was married? Until about 2016 my last name was Mehl-Laituri.

Gosh, that was a long time ago, no? It is ringing a bell.
What if I go through the piece that you sent and mark it up for the places where I was like: Say more, what do you mean, etc.? Alternatively, I would welcome a list of things that you would be interested in working on and we could go from there.
Thanks.

I’m fine with whatever you think is best. This piece scratches the surface of a much larger ball of wax around theology which I’m happy to discuss with The Century, which is what I assumed y’all sensed. Let me know your preference and we can go from there.
