📧 “Anti-military hate crimes” (ignored)

On our phone call last Thursday, you said "“we cover state issues and local Portland area issues.” Indeed, the Oregonian reported on hate crimes when a veteran attacked an Iraqi restaurant in Portland in 2017. But the paper did not apply the same standard when it reported on a crime in which veterans were targeted in 2010. The bias crime law under which the veteran was charged, ORS 166.155, was created in 1981, so it's not like it wasn't at law enforcement's disposal in 2010. I know you don't decide what laws to apply, but...

The Oregonian's editorial decisions normalize depriving military families of the rights their sacrifices secure.

I know The Oregonian does not decide what charges to bring, but you told me it was "an overstatement" when I informed you that Oregon does not protect veterans. Do you still stand by that claim? If not, when will your editorial priorities reflect the democratic values from which you benefit, but to which you have not contributed?
